A joint venture between well-known Toronto sommelier Christopher Sealy, formerly of Union, and local business owner Giuseppe Anile (who, until recently, owned Marquee Video and is a former manager at Bar Italia), Midfield features a wide selection of wine by the glass or bottle. “The midfield soccer player often spends the most energy, is the most fit and is sometimes the most creative,” Sealy says. “Many great midfielders have been captains and leaders on the field.” As for the food, Midfield currently offers a full meat and cheese board ($14 to $22), with meats supplied by Seed to Sausage and Pingue Prosciutto. Cheeses come from Ontario, Quebec and international sources — whatever happens to go best with the wines. The menu is constantly changing based on the seasonality of ingredients, but no matter what, there's always a few vegetarian dishes. Don't miss what wine pairs best with each offering.
