Thompson Diner, formerly known as the Counter, has been a constant staple for late night eats in the city. With typical Americana diner flare, this cutely decorated diner has an old-timey charm to go along with some of its more modern accents. The interior is fitted with plush leather and velvet booths and decked out with a paisley tile floor that seems a bit outdated, but still on brand with the rest of the decor. The menu is classic diner food with all the greasy delights you're looking for at 3 a.m. Their mac and cheese is dangerous, and with the option of adding truffle for a couple extra bucks, its all that much more decadent. The grilled cheeseburger, a six-ounce sirloin patty topped with three bacon strips, three tomatoes, three types of melted cheese (provolone, Swiss and cheddar) and lettuce, served with challah bread ($16), is just the dish to put you to sleep after a long night on the town.
