Retail Therapy: Second Voyage opens on Queen East

Four years ago Kyle Burton got into refurbishing vintage furniture, starting with a mid-century desk that he stripped, sanded and painted. The results drew him further into the idea of giving makeovers to things that are old. Late last year, he decided to take a leap of faith and open Second Voyage, a vintage home decor shop on Queen East.

Second Voyage has a variety of aesthetics that work together as a cohesive whole. Burton mixes industrial with rustic; gives nods to mid-century modern and makes use of nautical and Scandinavian themes.

“I have a few connections to the world of weddings in Toronto so I like to stock up on things that would serve well as prop rentals for weddings and events — dish and utensil sets, glassware, typewriters, antique books, the list goes on,” says Burton. “But of course, my unique and hard-to-find pieces are always popular as well.”
