The Weeknd cements his superstar status with purchase of $70 million Bel Air mega mansion

Toronto’s real estate market may be red-hot right now (despite an ongoing pandemic), but LA’s is even hotter – especially as of late – with Scarborough’s own Abel Tesfaye, AKA The Weeknd, recently purchasing a $70 million mansion in Bel Air in one of the biggest real estate deals closed in L.A. so far this year.

The homegrown R&B superstar and soon-to-be star and co-writer of upcoming HBO series “The Idol” has nabbed himself a mansion clocking in at roughly 33,000 square feet. The nine bedroom, 13-bathroom property sits on 1.6 meticulously manicured acres overlooking Bel Air Country Club and comes complete with a laundry list of enviable amenities. Your average bachelor pad, this most certainly is not.

Formerly belonging to Dutch couple Danielle and Reinout Oerlemans, the sale of the mansion was done off market.

The modern-meets-industrial space is bright and airy with an abundance of natural light thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows throughout. The overall aesthetic balances hard edges with softer accents, creating a vibe that easily meshes sophistication with a more laid back feel.

You’ll also find bold orange walls in the formal living room, as well as a large, contemporary kitchen complete with unique accents, like drawer handles repurposed from leather belts. It remains to be seen whether the chart-topping crooner will personalize his new home, but for now, it sounds like the space is more than move-in ready.

And if you’re curious about exactly what a cool $70 million gets you in terms of perks, The Weekend’s new home features a spa, sauna, hammam, gym, spa-like indoor pool and a music studio. If that weren’t enough, outdoors you’ll find the sports court and a gorgeous infinity pool accessorized by a waterfall.

Tesfaye’s previous home, located in Hidden Hills, was sold in April – to none other than Madonna.
