Too Close to Call: It’s fun to anger-cise at these two off-the-wall Toronto fitness centres

Looking for revenge or have some pent up rage? These two GTA gyms have designed workouts to help people let their frustration out. Punk rock spin classes or the destruction of office supplies? You decide.

Revenge Gym

vs.

Rage Room

The idea is to get revenge against those who’ve told you that you can’t, against those who picked you last in gym class or revenge against the boyfriend who told you you’re too fat. Success is the sweetest revenge. The idea behind revenge/rage concept?  While we were renovating Battle Sports, we had to throw things away, break things apart. While we were destroying stuff, we thought it was fun and that maybe it would be cathartic for people who are stressed.
We have this class called “prison break” where I wear an orange jumpsuit, and I already have a shaved bald head, so I already kind of look the part. What’s up with the gear? We provide protective and smashing gear including coveralls, a paintball mask and work boots. We also have bats and crowbars that people can use to smash things.
Yes. For my Valentine’s Day spin class, I ask everyone to send in the song they lost their virginity to, and I make a playlist of it. The workout is like revenge on your 17-year-old self who wasn’t so smooth. Do you get a lot of people on Valentine’s Day? When we first opened, we didn’t think of offering packages, but there were a bunch of couples who were coming in for Valentine’s Day and it really took off. The couples package is the main one that gets booked every day.
There was this young woman who had this loser boyfriend who would cheat on her. She decided to get fit, and when she did, she finally dumped him. He begged her to get back together with him. Best revenge/rage story you’ve heard? There was this divorced lady who brought in all her old wedding portraits and fine china they purchased together and she just totally destroyed it.
