When Noble Hops on Dundas, just west of Dufferin closed last summer it looked like Toronto had lost its only decent downtown home-brew shop west of Yonge. Zack Weinberg of Toronto Brewing quickly stepped in and agreed to take over the location.
Weinberg also has an online store and his original bricks-and-mortar location on Chesswood in Downsview.
Like the original North York shop, the downtown outpost has a wide selection of the supplies needed for making beer, including grains, hops, dry and liquid yeast. Kits range from the Coopers Brew Can Extract Kits to Brooklyn Brewshop all-grain kits like the Sorachi Ace Saison clone to Toronto Brewing’s house brand of recipe kits with pre-milled grain.
As well, they have equipment and tools for both beginners and advanced brewers. Staff are happy to walk you through the selection and help you decide just how much of a DIY experience you’re up for.
The transition was swift (and smooth) enough that the Noble Hops signage is sill in place. But Weinberg has added a personal touch in the form of two home-brewing mannequins in the front window.
Toronto Brewing’s downtown location is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Tuesday to Saturday.
