Toronto restaurant openings and coming soons: July 16-23

Aunty Lucy’s Burgers have opened a pop up at celeb-favourite Apt 200 (1034 Queen West). While the burgers are familiar (beef patties and American cheese), you can also order Ghanian favourites like kelewele (fried plantain seasoned with roasted garlic), jollof rice, and shito (hot sauce). The full Aunty Lucy’s menu can be ordered from your seat on the patio for the rest of the season.

Vancouver sensation Brick’n’Cheese has made its Ontario debut at 678 College. Your choice of protein and toppings are wrapped in a tortilla alongside cheese sauce and fries and then grilled to make this popular French street food. The original brick contains lean ground beef, chicken, ketchup, cheddar, and pickles, or go for the farmer brick with chicken, nuggets, honey mustard, mozzarella cheese, and mushrooms.

Burger Bros has opened a new location at 1316 Bloor West, marking their third location in the GTA. Beloved for their customizable burgers which are hand-cut, ground, and grilled in-house daily, Burger Bros are also known for their signature toppings, including fried calamari, jalapeno aioli, and bro sauce.

Gia, which is branded as a “plant-forward restaurant,” is now open at 1214 Dundas West. This vegan-friendly spot is elevating plant-based dining with an impressive wine and cocktail menu, as well as an array of can’t-miss appetizers including vegan crab cakes with citrus aioli and orange fennel salad, shishito peppers with smoked paprika, and olives marinated in citrus, garlic, onion, and herbs.

Labora has found its new home with Cold Tea at 1186 Queen West. The beloved Spanish restaurant and the iconic Toronto bar have teamed up for a summer pop-up on Cold Tea’s patio after Labora departed their original King West home earlier this summer. Think relaxed vibes but quality cuisine: fire-roasted artichokes and piquillo peppers, European langoustine (sauteed Fogo Island squid, chickpeas), and charred cheesecake with spicy red fruit jam.

European-inspired restaurant and bar Misty is now open at 490 Queen West. Alongside typical fares like beef sliders, fried calamari, and coconut shrimp, you can also find hidden gems including citrus butter tilapia (enoki mushroom, red radish, lemon garlic beurre blanc sauce), seafood pappardelle (blistered cherry tomatoes, spinach, scallops, shrimp, pine nuts) and seared duck breast (with roasted baby potatoes, broccolini, carrot puree).
